The Olathe Police Department conducted a DUI checklane on the night of Friday, June 17, and stopped 463 vehicles. This massive effort led to a whopping 3 DUI arrests in the checklane. The police waited until yesterday to release these results. That is far less than a 1% success rate. Apparently, they stopped the checklane early due to “bad weather”. Maybe they stopped it early so they wouldn’t have to report “bad statistics” that would prevent them from getting the grant money next time. Olathe DUI cases are usually not that difficult for the police to find, so perhaps they will want to rethink whether checklanes are the best use of law enforcement resources.
